Bunche Beach Preserve
Posted on Nov 20th, 2018 Comments (0)
Bunche Beach Preserve borders Mastique to the south and east. This 718-acre tidal wetlands area located on San Carlos Bay is unique in Florida because it is pristine.  There has never been any development of the area.  It not only is “Old Florida,” it is indicative of our entire area before the introduction of exotic plant species.

And as you might expect, it is home to wildlife typical of an earlier time.  Snakes, river otters, alligators, coyotes and even a Florida panther have been seen by residents of Mastique.

Lake Mastique and Alligators
Posted on Nov 20th, 2018 Comments (0)
Alligators are common throughout Florida and are usually found in fresh water lakes and ponds. Lake Mastique and the surrounding Bunche Preserve are salt water environments and alligators will usually avoid this environment.
However, alligators do, from time to time, appear in our lake and lie on our beaches.
If you observe an alligator - follow the understanding we have with that species "we will ignore you and you will ignore us."  In other words - do not approach, frighten or feed the gator.
